Masai Mara

The Masai Mara is a large game reserve in Narok County and is one of the most famous wildlife areas in Africa, world-renowned for its exceptional populations of lions, leopards, cheetahs and elephant. The landscape is characterised by open plains as far as the eye can see, dotted with shrubs and acacia trees. The Mara is alive with culture surrounded by the Masai tribes. It also hosts the Great Migration, where the Wildebeest, topi, zebra and Thomson’s gazelle migrate into the Mara.

Lamu Island

Lamu island is one of the original Swahili settlements filled with Swahili architecture and culture. The use of cars on the island is banned and so the residents walk or ride a donkey to get around. Lamu Old Town is a small town on the island, founded in the 14th century, characterised by courtyards, verandas, and elaborately carved wooden doors. It is also uniquely Swahili in that the town is littered with narrow winding streets. Shela is a village just south of Lamu Old Town and with some of the most spectacular beaches it is now a centre for tourism on the island. Lamu overlooks the white coasts of Manda Island, which is home to Manda Bay.

Laikipia

To the north-east of the Great Rift Valley, and north-west of snow-capped Mount Kenya, the high plains of Laikipia are increasingly recognised as one of Kenya’s best safari regions. Formerly a patchwork of huge ranches, and still an important livestock district, Laikipia is now where some of Kenya’s most encouraging conservation success stories are unfolding. It harbours a wealth of endangered species, including roughly half of Kenya’s black rhinos, a large population of wild dogs and the Grevy’s zebra.

Diani Beach

Diani Beach is on the Indian Ocean coast of Kenya, south of Mombasa. The beach is about 17 kilometres of white sandy coastline, from the Kongo river to the Galu beach. The water remains shallow near shore, with some underwater sandbars near the surface which allow wading with a clear view of the sandy bottom. Inland from the beach, there is extensive vegetation, including numerous palm trees. The general area is known for its coral reefs, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and for the closely located Shimba Hills National Reserve. Diani Beach is also a popular kitesurfing, sky diving, jet skiing, and snorkelling location.

Lake Naivasha

Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake in Kenya, in Nakuru County, which lies north west of Nairobi. It is at the highest elevation of the Kenyan Rift Valley. Much of the lake is surrounded by forests of the yellow barked Acacia. The lake is home to all types of wildlife including over 400 different species of bird and a sizeable population of hippos. The waters draw a great range of game to these shores. Giraffes wander among the acacia, buffalo wallow in the swamps and monkeys call from the treetops

Nairobi

Nairobi is known the the safari capital of Africa. The name comes from the Maasai phrase Enkare Nairobi, which translates to "cool water", a reference to the Nairobi River which flows through the city.  Nairobi is an energetic, modern city that serves as a fascinating introduction to both wildlife and nightlife. Just outside the city is Nairobi National Park, 113 sq. kms of plains, cliffs and forest, and therefore large numbers of wildlife are living within 20 minutes of the centre of town. The city has not lost its sense of the past, with an excellent museum and the historical home of Karen Blixen, author of Out of Africa.
